Mt. Kailash and Holy Lake Manasorvar adventure starts with overland drive from Kathmandu with interesting sceneries along the journey to reach Nepal and Tibet frontier towns at Kodari and Zhangmu and then with acclimatization days.
Drive leads through high and dry Tibetan plateau with gorgeous views of snowcapped peaks and over high passes to reach our first destination at holy Lake Manasarover a huge body of waters within Kailash area.
Our next adventure leads to our main destination around Mt. Kailash circumbulation with climb to high Droma-la pass at 5,470 m with immense views of Mt. Kailash North Face, after a holy walk around sacred mountain return drive on the same route to conclude this outmost pilgrimage Mt. Kailash & Holy Lake Manasarover back to Kathmandu.
Day 01: Arrive in Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.
Day 02: In Kathmandu with half day tour and preparation for Lhasa tour.
Day 03: Drive to Nylam 3,450 m via Zhangmu (2,300 m) -168 Kms – 06 hrs.
Day 04: Rest day at Nylam for acclimatization with short hike.
Day 05: Drive to Drive to Saga 4,400m -05 hrs.
Day 06: Drive to Paryang 4,550 m-06 hrs.
Day 07: Drive to east side of Lake Manasarover 4,550m- 06 hrs.
Day 08: Acclimatization and Rest Day at Manasarover.
Day 09: Drive to Tarboche via Darchen 4,600m and walk to Dhiraphuk 4,900 m – 05 hrs.
Day 10: Trek to Zutul-Puk 4,760m – 06 hours.
Day 11: Trek to Darchen and drive near Maium-la.
Day 12: Retracing drive back to Saga via Paryang.
Day 13: Drive to Zhangmu 1,940 m – 06 hrs.
Day 14: Drive to Kathmandu via Kodari – 06 hrs.
Day 15: International departure for home ward bound.
Currently this route is closed after devastating earth quake, in optional we are organizing this trip via limi valley or Kerong boarder.

Starting our adventure overland to Kailash with an interesting drive of four hours to reach the border post at Kodari on Nepal side, with PP and Visa formalities then heading towards Tibet / China entry points where our Tibetan guides and driver receives you in Zhangmu after completion with paper works, visa and permits continue drive following Bhote Kosi river upstream to Nylam town, a nice ride through beautiful forest of pines and rhododendron trees with views of waterfalls.
At Nylam transfer in the best available lodge-hotel or guest house for overnight stop with first night in Tibetan soil with high altitude gain.
An important to have rest day for safe travel to Mt. Kailash, from Nylam onward tree lines disappear where Tibetan plateau starts and ends. Around Nylam take a short walk visit Milarepa cave and its monastery just an hour walk on route Laylung pass, Milarepa a11th Centaury saint known for his goodly preaching, poet with folk songs and miracles performance.
Morning starts with a drive on high Tibetan plateau through high pass of Lalung-La 5,050m with views of Shishapangma 8,013m Gaurishanker, Langtang range, drive continues with brief stop around villages, farm fields and Nomads / Yak herders camps. Drive heads further west to remote areas of Tibet as the day ends at Saga town for overnight stop.
From Saga drive leads to complete wilderness, after few hour climbs to a pass then descends to long stretch of Tibetan plains, with views of distant peaks bordering western Nepal.
Drive passes farm villages and towns then reaching an isolated Paryang town.
Paryang at 4,550 m a small town of 15-20 houses serving as Guest houses and Lodge, where the facilities are simple and basic facilities.
Morning drive leads to more dry country with few stops through small villages and nomads camps, driving over Mayam-la at 5,150m to reach the eastern shore of holy Lake Manasarover for overnight stops.
Rest day for acclimatization and short walk around Lake Manasarover, a sacred lake located between Mt. Kailash 6,714m and the Gurla Mandhata mountain range at 7,694 m.
Manasarover floats beneath the shadow of holy Kailash as the lake formed in the mind of Gods.
The best time to circle around Manasarover is in late autumn and early spring, when the streams and rivers are shallow. An optional circuit with drive around Manasarover Lake can be done on request taking about 5 hrs.
After a wonderful rest at holy Manasarover Lake, a short drive to popular Darchen town of the area which is also the start and end of holy Kailash circuit or kora, Darchen with hotels and guesthouses a busy place with hundreds of pilgrims during auspicious time for parikrama / kora (circumambulation).
From Darchen drive leads North West at holy spot Tarboche where our walk begins with view of Kailash West Face.
Kailash stands at 6,714m, heart of ancient Shangshung kingdom supposed country of pre-Buddhist Bonpos origin. After 4 hrs walks brings you at Diraphuk Gompa for overnight stop in a simple lodge.
After Dhiraphuk, morning walk on nice path for an hour and then climb to reach the top at Dromo-la the highest point of Kailash walk, a holy spot at 5,470m /18,525ft. A big boulder represents goddess Dolma or Dromo (Tara) this place festooned with prayer flags.
This spot is the physical and spiritual high point of pilgrimage. From here descend to the bottoms of the hill and then walk to Zutul-Puk Gompa for overnight stop, Zuthul means cave. The place is named after a cave where poet, saint Milarepa meditated; his footprint still remains on the roof.
Last day of holy walk kora or parikrama, an easy morning walk of few hours on broad plain passing many prayer mani walls, then coming to a narrow valley with short section of gorge as the route turns towards west to Darchen, last leg of the walk make a dramatic exit from river valley on to the plain as walk passes to mani walls decorated with carved yak skulls.
A short walk from brings you at Darchen and end of this great trek, from here drive back near Maium-la around Lake Manasarover for overnight stop.
A long drive to reach Saga town via Paryang journey on the same route for 6 hours or more overland drive to Saga for overnight stops.
After exciting time with super views of mountains at its closest straddling with Nepal / Tibet border, morning a long drive to reach Zangmu a border town, from Saga after few hour drive joining the main road Lhasa / Kathmandu highway at Lalung-la.
After a short stop continue drive heading over Laylung pass 5,050 m, with downhill to Nylam town and back into forest area, on leaving high and Tibetan dry plateau with views of beautiful waterfalls, after little hour drive from Nylam reaching Zhangmu town for last overnight stop in Tibet.
Morning as per China Beijing Standard Time (of 2:15 minutes ahead than Nepal standard time) after passport and visa formalities, a short drive leads at Friendship Bridge separating Tibet / China with Nepal territory.
At the bridge bidding farewell to our Tibetan guides and driver, then walk into Nepal soil for the drive to Kathmandu, on reaching Kathmandu transfer to your hotels with afternoon free for individual activities and shopping.
Last day in Nepal as per your flight time transfer to Kathmandu international departure for flight back to own countries after a great tour and experience around Mt. Kailash & Holy Lake Manasarover pilgrimage tour.
