Jiri to Everest base camp trekking starts with an interesting overland drive to Jiri and to Shivalaya past towns and villages of Himalayan foothills and to lovely places of Dhulkhel and Chrikot. From Jiri drive continue drive heading east on winding dirt road to Shivalaya village for overnight stop a nice place on a green valley by the river.
From Shivalaya first day walk begins through farm villages and fields with short ups and downhill and into lovely forested area, as walk progress climbing to a small pass of Deurali, then downhill to Bhandar or Chyangma village for overnight stop.
Morning walk through farm terraces, rural villages to reach Kenja village, a nice moderate size village, situated i beneath high hills of Lamjura and Pikey danda with views of Numbur peaks. From Kenja, a steep climb to Sete village for overnight stop, from here onward air gets cooler.
Morning walk heads higher to Lamjura-la pass with climb through lovely rhododendron, pines and oak trees forest and through small farm, on reaching Lamjura pass near a big stupa with few lodges. After a short break long descend into forested area all the way to Toctoc, and then continue walk on a wide gradual winding trail to reach at Junbesi, a nice large Sherpa village with an interesting old monastery and high school built by Sir Edmund Hillary Trust.
After a pleasant overnight at Junbesi, morning walk on winding path with first glimpse of Mt. Everest and adjoining peaks of Khumbu area, walk downhill to a river, on crossing a bridge a short climb to Ringmo village for lunch. After Ringmo, a gradual climb into forested area of pines and rhododendron trees to reach at Takshindu hill top a pass at 3,070 m. The top decorated with Mani Stupa or chortens with views of Numbur, Kusum Kangguru, Thamersarkhu and Kantega peaks towards North. From here a long descend to Nunthala via Takshindo village and monastery; continue downhill into forest to Nunthala village, also called Manidingma a large hill village with Rai and Sherpa communities.
From here temperature gets cooler getting closer to Khumbu / Everest area, morning walk with downhill to a bridge over Dudh Kosi River, crossing the river climb uphill to Jubing village, from here an hour uphill to Kharikhola, a large Sherpa and Magar village, after Khari-khola towards high ridge of Bupsa hill, crossing river with steep climb for an hour to Bupsa for overnight stop, located on a ridge offering grand views of rolling hills and valleys.
From Bupsa climb through forested area with much bird life of pheasant and magpie, walk carries on climbing above Kharte Dande at 3,880m leading higher above Dudh Kosi River, on reaching at Puiyan village for lunch, after Puiyan walk is moderate with view of Lukla town and the airstrip, the last leg of the walk descend to Surkhe village for overnight stop, Surkhe located just an hour below Lukla.
From Surkhe at Khumbu area, walk on a wide trail to reach Choplung village, where the trail from Lukla and Jiri joins, from here onward on popular route to Everest base camp, walk follows through many small villages and farm lands with great scenery and then reaching at Phakding for overnight stop this village located by the Dudh Kosi (river)
After a nice morning, walk continues crossing bridges over Dudh Kosi River passing several interesting villages of Toc-Toc, Bhenkar and Monjo arriving at Sagarmatha National Park entrance gate, from here on the river bed for few hours and after the last bridge a steep uphill to Namche Bazaar, at Namche with facilities of good restaurant, pubs, cyber café, post office, and banks.
A perfect place for rest day for proper acclimatization before heading higher area, morning a short hike to Everest View Hotel or walk up on top a hill of Namche for views of Everest, Amadablam and adjoining peaks, visit the museum.
From Namche on gradual scenic path with downhill to Imjatse river at Phunge-Tenga for lunch, and then uphill through rhododendron, pines, firs tree forest with views of snowcapped peaks. On reaching Thyangboche visit famous Buddhist monastery with magnificent panorama of Mt. Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Kangtenga, Thamasarku, Kwande and majestic Amadablam.
Morning downhill walk for few hours over Imjatse River, after the bridge walk on an open country where tree lines fades for few short juniper and dwarf rhododendron bushes, uphill for a while to reach at Pangboche village at 3,900 meters. Last permanent village before Dingboche and beyond, from here a slow climb to Somara for lunch and continue walk with climb to Dingboche village for overnight stop, located in Imjatse valley with panorama of mountains.
After a great rest at Dingboche morning walk with steep climb for an hour commanding excellent views, and then on gentle trail to Thugla for lunch where Khumbu glacier melts into a raging river, here trail from Pheriche joins after a break a steep climb for an hour to Thulga pass, with stone memorials of unfortunate climbers who died climbing Mt. Everest, Lhotse and other high mountains. From here a nice pleasant walk brings to Lobuche for overnight stop.
Today reach the highlight of this adventure at Everest Base Camp, walk for few hours with short steep climb in between over glacier and moraine, reaching Gorakshep, beneath Mt. Pumori and Kalapathar. Walk continues towards Everest Base Camp, at base camp enjoy the view of notorious Kuhmbu Ice Fall and glaciers, after fulfilling the dreams of lifetime experience retrace the journey back to Goarkshep for overnight halt.
Early morning hike on top Kalapathar at 5,545 meters, highest point of this adventure, offering incredible views of mountains including Mt. Everest at close distance, after a great moment return to Gorakshep for breakfast and continue walk to Thugla, and then downhill to Pheriche windy valley after a nice pleasant walk reaching at Pheriche for overnight stop.
Return journey is much easier losing heights every hours, walking downhill with few short ups to Pangboche and then to the bridge with two 2 hours climb to Thyangboche for overnight stop.
After a great time descend to Imjatse River, with steep climb for an hour to Sanasa, from here on gradual path with short ups and downs to Namche Bazaar, a break here and then walk back to Dudh Kosi river valley and to Monjo for overnight stop.
Morning walk reaching at Phakding from here retrace the journey back to Lukla with last climb, on reaching Lukla celebrate last night dinner with fellow trekkers and staff.
From Lukla taking an early morning flight back to Kathmandu with views of mountains, at Kathmandu domestic airport our staff transfers you back to respective hotels with rest of the day free at leisure.
A spare day in Kathmandu in case of flight delay and cancellation due to unfavorable bad weather which might occur, as the Himalayan weather can be unpredictable sometimes if all goes well have a free day or sightseeing tour of Kathmandu-Patan and Bhaktapur.
Today, your last day in amazing Nepal with great experience and fond memories of Jiri to Everest Base Camp trekking, as per your time for international flight, View Nepal staff transfer you to airport for your final departure homeward bound or to your next destinations.
This is one of the exciting and classic trek, walk starts with moderate walk with much uphill and downhill and then gets adventurous on reaching high Khumbu area due to high altitude of above 3,000 meters. We have set rest day to acclimatize well before heading to Everest base camp at 5,334 m / 15,500 ft high.
Depending upon the season of trekking, autumn and winter months can get cold above 2,000 meters especially morning and night time but the day is pleasant with sunny days most of the season. Other season beside monsoon / wet months is pleasant with occasional thunder showers during late afternoon.
In the beginning after Jiri and Shivalaya the lodge are simple, on the least visited area by other trekkers, on reaching Phakding on mainstream trekking trails, the lodges are nice and cozy with attached bathrooms available till Namche, from then on lodge are simple and basic but clean with common bathrooms. Foods are as per the menu from Nepali set meals of Dal Bhat, Noodles (soup or fired) continental / Chinese to Mexican and Italian with Indian verities. It is better to stick with vegetarian food while on trek as it is not healthy due to hygiene. Higher above 4,000 m food menu are limited due to remoteness and high terrain climate conditions.
