Tent Peak also called Tharpu Chuli stands at 5,663 m /18,575 ft high with grade for the climb rated as PD + meaning “Peu Difficile” with few technical difficulties, walking on glaciers, the grade used from Swiss / French Alpine climbing System which is in use worldwide for the alpine climb.

Adventure begins with an overland drive to picturesque and famous tourist destination at Pokhara, and then starting the walk towards high green hill through enchanting alpine forest and visiting traditional Gurung villages of Gandruk and Chomrong to reach a marvelous area at Annapurna Sanctuary.

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.

Day 03: Fly to Lukla 2,830 m & trek to Phakding 2,640 m - 04 hrs.
Day 04: Trek to Namche Bazaar 3,440 m - 05 hrs.

Day to Day Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.

On reaching Kathmandu Tribhuvan International Airport, View Nepal Treks staff receives you and then a short drive to hotel within the heart of Kathmandu city, after refreshment our guide / leader will inform regarding trekking Annapurna base camp and Tent Peak Climb including hotels –lodge on route with do and don’ts with welcome dinner.

Day 02: In Kathmandu sightseeing tour at places of interest.

Today a free day preparation for the trek and climb of Tent Peak, this day allows necessary paper works for Tent Peak climb. For interested people can book for short sightseeing tour around Kathmandu at places of interest, as Kathmandu valley is full of world heritage sites and monuments.

Day 03: Drive or fly to Pokhara 950m - 06 hrs journey distance 220 k.m.

Starting the adventure to Tent Peak and Annapurna Sanctuary with an overland drive to Pokhara through Himalayan foothills, on reaching Pokhara transfer to respective hotels close to serene Lake Phewa with afternoon free for short strolls. (Options by Air 30 minutes flight to Pokhara).

Day 04: Drive to Nayapul 1,100m begin trek to Ghandruk 1,750m.

On leaving Pokhara valley towards mid hill villages with constant views of snowcapped peaks as the drive ends at Nayapul starting the walk following the Modi River most of the way passing a nice Bhiretahti village, and then a climb to Ghandruk for overnight halt. This is a large Gurung village around Annapurna region, Gurung are famous as gallant soldiers and mercenaries in foreign legion with British and Indian Gorkha battalions.

Day 05: Trek to Chomrong 1,951m - 06 hours.

Morning walk leads above Ghandruk village, trekking on gradual path and with uphill to Kimrong ridge, from here route descends to Kimrong valley into cool forested area. On reaching Kimrong River, an uphill climb for few hours to the top of Chomrong village. From the top a short downhill to overnight stop at Chomrong village for overnight stop, this is a last permanent village door to Annapurna Sanctuary and Base Camp trek.

Day 06: Trek to Dovan 2,130m via Bamboo 2,050m - 06 hours.

After Chomrong walk leads to short downhill through terraced fields to Chomrong River. After crossing a bridge an uphill for an hour to Sinuwa danda, from here walk to Bamboo a small settlement, located by the Modi River in the middle of bamboo, rhododendron and oaks forested area. Walk continues after Bamboo with gradual up to Dovan for overnight stop, situated in the middle of forest and river gorge.

Day 07: Trek to Machhapuchare Base Camp 3,720m via Deurali - 06 hrs.

From here onwards air gets cooler as the walk gets close to Annapurna Sanctuary and Base Camp. Walk leads on glacier and moraine formed by old avalanches near Deurali the last place with lodges before Machhapuchare Base Camp. Here onward tree lines disappears with only short bushes, a climb leads following Modi Rivers upstream to Machhapuchare Base Camp for overnight stop. Located beneath North Face of Machhapuchare Peak, from here onwards begins Annapurna Sanctuary.

Day 08: Trek to Annapurna Base Camp 4, 095m - 04 hours.

Morning walk starts with views of mountains, then reaching higher areas at Annapurna Base Camp within unique Annapurna Sanctuary enclosed with mountains. After a good walk reaching at Annapurna Base Camp for lunch and overnight stop. Here with time to relax and enjoy the views.

Day 09: At Annapurna Base Camp rest day for acclimatization.

Necessary rest day for acclimatization for the climb of Tent peak, our guide offers instruction with climbing techniques and skills, rest of the day just relax and enjoy mountain views including Tent Peak or Tharpu Chuli.

Day 10: Trek to Tent peak Base Camp 4,450 m / 14,600 ft - 05 hrs.

After a nice relaxing time at Annapurna Base Camp, morning walk leads across snow-covered moraine rocky path towards icy trail for an hour reaching a glacier of Annapurna South. After few hours of climb walk leads on a flat spot to set our base camp, first night in tents with proper camping facilities of cook and kitchen staff and dining tents including excellent camping meals.

Day 11: Trek to High Camp 5,200 m / 17,056 ft - 04 hrs.

Adding extra day to make the climb more accessible, from base camp heading further with a steep climb along rocky and icy glacier with lot of boulders, climb continue to reach high camp at 5,200 meters, afternoon free preparation for the summit bid with time to marvel the sunset views over high mountains.

Day 12: Climb to the summit of Tent Peak and return to Base Camp - 06 hrs.

A Big Day and final destination of this adventure, starting early morn climbing on snow slope with steep ice and rocks technical sections to reach the Tent Peak summit; our expert guide with full support fixing ropes where necessary, and then a last tough haul to reach the summit at 5,663 meters high. On top take a rest and admire the beautiful panorama of whole Annapurna Mountains, descend by same route to base camp.

Day 13: Reserve day in case of bad weather condition.

View Nepal Treks for your success, reserves an extra day as contingency in case of bad and unfavorable weather condition, or to adjust this day to maintain itinerary days taking care of client’s fitness as well. If this day not used and if all goes well according to our standard itinerary our guide / leader will use this extra day on return trek to Chomrong or on route Pokhara, making short day as you enjoy the walks with views on route trekking.

Day 14: Trek back to Annapurna Base Camp - 05 hrs.

Morning after breakfast from base camp, cleaning up the base camp and packing gears, head back to Annapurna Base Camp via an icy path, a normal moderate walk of about five hours to overnight stop at Annapurna base camp.

Day 15: Trek to Bamboo 2,050 m - 06 hours.

After grand time at Annapurna base camp with the successful climb on top of Tent Peak, head downhill all the way to Deurali. From here with few ups and downs and some gradual section back into tree lines to reach at Bamboo for overnight stop.

Day 16: Trek to Jhinu danda 1,700m via Chomrong 06 hours.

Morning a short steep climb to Khuldi Ghar, and then downhill through dense forest passing Sinuwa danda as the walk leads lead to Chomrong khola. After the bridge an uphill walk for an hour to Chomrong village for lunch. After Chomrong with half hour climb at Chomrong ridge and then descend to Jhinu danda for overnight stop. This village offers refreshing bathe in hot springs which is just 20 minutes walk downhill near Modi River.

Day 17: Trek to Pothana 1, 900 m - 05 hrs.

After a pleasant stop continue downhill walk to another New Bridge (Nayapul) by the Modi River, after the bridge a gradual walk and short climb to reach at Landruk village, and then through terraced farm fields and villages reaching cool forested area, a short climb to Deurali ridge at 2,150 m. After Deurali a nice pleasant walk leads to Pothana with grand views of Mt. Annapurna, Mt. Manaslu including views of Fish Tail peak.

Day 18: Trek to Kande and drive to Pokhara.

Morning starts with super views of mountains and heading up at Thulo Kharka also called Australian Camp a beautiful place with large meadows overlooking magnificent views of the Himalayan range of mountains, from here trek concludes with an hour downhill to Kande village on the road connecting Baglung-Pokhara highway, from here an hour drive back to Pokhara after a wonderful time up in the high mountains.

Day 19: Drive or fly back to Kathmandu.

Morning a scenic drive to Kathmandu, after a remarkable Tent Peak climb and Annapurna Base Camp trek, on reaching Kathmandu transfer to respective hotels with afternoon free at leisure for individual activities and souvenir shopping. (Options by air with 30 mins scenic flight back to Kathmandu)

Day 20: International departure homeward bound.

Last day in Nepal with wonderful experience and fond memories of Tent Peak Climb and Annapurna Base Camp trekking, as per the flight time View Nepal Treks staff transfer you to airport for your final departure homeward bound or to your next destinations.

Faqs About This Trip

How hard is the walk to Annapurna base camp and Tent Peak Climb?

Annapurna base camp trekking leads from moderate walk to adventurous especially in snow conditions, leading up and down hills on stone steps near villages, as altitude wise it is one of the most safest trek at ABC only above 4,095 meters high without the problem of AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness). As for the climb of Tent Peak or Tharpu chuli one of hardest and technical requires enough skill on ice and rock climbing.

Is cold up at the Tent Peak / Annapurna base camp?

This trek leads from warm sub-tropical climate to cooler temperatures as the walk progress above 2,000 meters, with mild alpine climate with morning and night time cooler but the day is bright and sunny sometimes the afternoon can get windy with wind-chill factor. Can be cold season wise, autumn and winter months can get cold above 3,000 m with strong UV. In spring and summer above ,3000 m with 15°-18° C average and minimum of 0° to 5° C, autumn / winter day time 15°-16° C and can get below -10° C during morn / night time.

Preparation and expectations required for this trek and climb?

As this is a moderate and adventurous trekking one needs to be physical fit with sound health, however after booking this trip one can do short exercise jogging and climbing up and down the steps, aerobic or Jumba exercise will be great exercise preparation for this trek. Higher Annapurna area of complete Tibetan Buddhist religion and culture, visit to religious sites where our guide will inform of the rules while entering holy sites with dress conducts. As for the climb requires positive attitude and good physical fitness with some practice of ice axe and using crampons if possible during trek our guide will offer good practices and instructions for the climb.

What happens if sick during the trip?

One of the safest trekking despite high mountains, chance of altitude getting AMS is very slim starting with slow moderate walk, acclimatization every day before reaching Base Camp at 4,095meters. If some people get sick with other problem or diarrhea which is normal due to change of foods, air and environment, we do carry medical kit on every trek as our guide have enough medical experience, they will advice what is best and in case of serious illness and accidents, emergency evacuation is necessary by any means of transport including helicopter service to reach nearest hospital.

How are the communications up in the mountains?

Normally Satellite and local Cell phone works, when deep gorge and valley like in Bamboo –Dovan-Deurali it won’t work properly sometimes, in case if your cell does not work there are Landlines (STD /ISTD) available along every lodge on route ABC.
