View Nepal Treks proudly presents a magnificent adventure “Rolwaling Valley & Ramdung Go Peak” at an altitude of 5,925 m high, located on least explored and unspoiled areas of Nepal Mid East Himalayan range of mountains.

The climb is undertaken after much acclimatization and trekking in the backdrop majestic Mt. Gauri-Shankar (7,145 m) and Melung Tse / Jobo Garee peaks (7,181m).  The climb of lesser technical difficulty rated as PD grade from French / Swiss Alpine climbing system.

The adventure begins with a drive on interesting highway past Charikot and Dolkha towns and villages to reach the start of trekking at Gongar by the glacial Tama Kosi River.

As walk progress from warm paddy areas to cool alpine forest and Sherpa villages of Simi-gaon, then reaching a wide and open hidden valley at Beding and Na villages surrounded by high snowcapped peaks.

Our adventure continues at the end of the valley with nice and scenic walks to Ramdung-Go base for an exciting and enjoyable climb to the summit of Ramdung-Go, with the tremendous support of our expert guides.

After an experience of a lifetime with a panorama of mountains that encircles the top of Ramdung-Go Peak, return journey on the same route with more views of beautiful Rolwaing Valley before the drive leads back to Kathmandu where this marvelous adventure concludes.

Day to Day Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.

On arrival at Kathmandu International Airport, View Nepal Treks staff and guide will receive you for the transfer to your hotels around interesting Kathmandu city. After rest in your rooms with refreshment, our guide / leader provides briefing on Rolwaling Valley & Ramdung-Go Peak Climb, camping on route with do and don’ts includes welcome dinner.

Day 02: In Kathmandu sightseeing tour at places of interest.

Today a free day preparation for the trek and climb of Ramdung-Go Peak, this day allows necessary shopping for gear required for the trek and climb. For interested people can book for short sightseeing tour around Kathmandu at places of interest, as Kathmandu valley is full of world heritage sites and monuments.

Day 03: Drive to Gongar 1,400 m via Charikot - 07 hrs journeys.

Start this marvelous adventure with drive on Kathmandu-Jiri highway, an interesting ride on the mid-hills of Himalaya, passing villages and towns of Charikot and Dolkha to reach Rolwaling area, then reaching at Gongar a small farm villager by the river Tama Kosi, which lies on route Tibet border.

Day 04: Trek to Simigaon 2,000 m- 05 hrs.

From Gongar morning walk over Tama Koshi, and into narrow gorge to reach at Chetchet with magnificent waterfalls, then heading towards cooler area, on leaving rice paddy as the walk climb into alpine hills towards our overnight camp at Simigaon village of Sherpa tribe, a nice farm village growing corns, potatoes, wheat’s, barley and millets, afternoon free visit the old monastery with views of Mt. Gaurishankar and Melung Tse peak.

Day 05: Trek to Dovan 2,850 m - 05 hrs.

Starting the morning walk towards North East through terraced farm fields and then into serene forest of rhododendron, oaks, magnolia, and pine trees, walk continues above the hill and then downhill through cattle herders shades and huts at Gyalche, after an hour of good walk reaching our overnight camp at Dovan, by the river that flows from the mountains high above, Dovan a small settlement in the middle of a forest with few houses.

Day 06: Trek to Beding 3,690m - 05 hrs.

Morning walk starts crossing over Rolwaling khola (stream) then climb up into forested area, where path winds up to reach at Nyimare and Ramding farm a Sheppard’s temporary settlements. Walk continues with a climb and then completing the day trek at Beding village for overnight stop. Beding village of Sherpa community and this is the last permanent village around Rolwaling Valley, village set in a gorge with an old monastery and a primary school built by Hillary foundation.

Day 07: Rest day for acclimatization and short hikes.

Rest day in Beding village at this high altitude, necessary for acclimatization before heading high to Ramdung Go Peak climb, on this day with free morning take a short hike around, as walking higher and sleeping at low elevation helps to acclimatize well. This rest day also helps to plan the climb where our guide offer necessary information of the area, culture, religion and climbing skill required for the climb.

Day 08: Trek to Na Gaon 4,180m - 04hrs.

Today’s walk leads at the end of this beautiful Rolwaling valley beneath the towering Mt. Gaurishankar 7,145 m and Melung Tse ( Jobo Garee) peaks 7,181 m, after leaving Beding village walk leads towards up-hills with views of snowcapped peaks Guari-shanker, Melung Tse, Ramdung Go 5,925 m, Chukyima go 6,259 m, Tabayabyum 5,558 m, and Yalung ri 5,630 m, slowly walk enters a wide glacial Rolwaling valley ending with a wall of mountains. After a pleasant walk reaching at Na Gaon, a temporary settlement of Beding village cattle herders located on wide summer pasture, people grows potato, wheat’s and barley. Afternoon relax, catch up with the dairy or short walk around.

Day 09: Trek to Ramdung-go Base Camp 4,750m - 05 hrs

From Na Gaon, morning starts with a climb t enter hidden and isolated area crossing an icy river towards south then heading eastward direction. After a climb reaching at base camp around 4,750 meters high, afternoon preparation for next morning climb.

Day 10: Climb Ramdung Peak 5,925 m - 08 hrs.

The highlight and main destination of this adventure, starting early dawn climb on snow and ice slopes, a steep and slippery with some technical sections to reach the top of Ramdung Peak at 5, 925 meters high; our guide will offer full support making the route safe fixing ropes where necessary. On top of Ramdung-Go with tough climb and feeling great in high spirit achieving an experience of a life time adventure, descend back to base camp safely.

Day 11: Reserve day in case of bad weather condition.

View Nepal Treks for your success, reserves an extra day as contingency in case of bad and unfavorable weather condition, or to adjust this day to maintain itinerary days taking care of client’s fitness as well. If this day not used and if all goes well according to our standard itinerary our guide / leader will use this extra day on return trek to Beding or on the way to Kathmandu, making some short day so that you can enjoy walks with views on route trekking.

Day 12: Trek back to Beding gaon - 07 hrs.

After a great climb head back to Na gaon after few hours of tough walk, on reaching Na with some rest or possible lunch break then continue downhill to Beding after a long day trek of this trip.

Day 13: Trek to Dovan - 05hrs.

Today an easy day on losing heights with downhill walks most of the way passing farm villages with cultivated fields and terraces and back into tree lines and lush vegetations to our overnight stop at Dovan between the confluences of two streams.

Day 14: Trek to Simigaon - 05 hrs.

Morning starts with a climb for an hour and then on gentle winding path through rhododendron and pines forest leading downhill back at Simigaon for overnight stop.

Day 15: Trek to Gongor – 04 hrs.

A short walk of last day trekking reaching Tama Kosi River and into warmer temperature leading to long descend towards our last overnight camp of this adventure.

Day 16: Drive back to Kathmandu – 07 hrs.

After a great and memorable adventure with life time experience, morning drive towards past Charikot where the road from Jiri and Kathmandu joins, and then drive towards Bhote Kosi river and then uphill to Dhulikhel and then back in Kathmandu.

Day 17: In Kathmandu free day with sightseeing tour.

A spare day in Kathmandu to relax, after a tough and wonderful time around Rolwaling valley and Ramdung-Go peak climb, free day for shopping souvenirs or book for sightseeing tour around Kathmandu-Patan or Bhaktapur.

Day 18: International departure homeward bound.

Today, your last day in amazing Nepal with great experience and fond memories of Rolwaling valley and Ramdung-Go peak climb and trekking, as per your time for international flight, View Nepal staff transfer you to airport for your final departure homeward bound or to your next destinations.

Faqs About This Trip

How hard is Ramdung Go Peak trek and climb?

Starting with moderate walks with up hills and short breaks in between, trekking is pleasant except for high altitude on reaching Rolwaling valley at Beding village of above 3,000 meters. With rest day for acclimatization and the daily walk helps acclimatizing on this trek with slow rise in elevation, the only tough day is above Na and towards Ramdung Go Peak base camp due to high altitude and dry air. Taking slow and steady walk everyone can enjoy this marvelous trek and climb to Ramdung-Go Peak Climb.

How cold during this trek and climb?

Morning and night time are always cold above 2,500 meters with day time are sunny most of the season, spring and summer above 2,500 m 15°-18° C average and minimum of 0° to 5° C, autumn / winter day time 15°-16° C and can get below -10° C during morn / night time. We do not run this trek from December to March due to high chances of snow on route Rolwaling Valley area and Ramdun-Go Peak Climb.

Preparation and expectations required for this trek and climb?

As this is a moderate and adventurous trekking one needs to be physical fit with sound health, however after booking this trip one can do short exercise jogging and climbing up and down the steps, aerobic or Jumba exercise will be great exercise preparation for this trek. Higher from Simigaon and Rolwaling valley of complete Tibetan Buddhist religion and culture, visit to monasteries where our guide will inform of the rules while entering holy sites with dress conducts. As for the climb requires positive attitude and good physical fitness with some practice of ice axe and using crampons if possible during trek our guide will offer good practices and instructions for the climb.

What is moderate and adventurous grade?

As this trek starts with moderate grade of walking as altitude wise as the trek progress leading higher elevation of above 3,000 meters will be adventurous overcoming high altitude and thin air, if the trails are covered in deep snow including the pass we use the word grade as adventurous which leads to tough walk on ice and snow sometimes and finding safe path on snow conditions. If the high areas of Rolwaling valley is completely covered in deep snow we will consider and might re-route the trek to safe area for the welfare, safety of clients including staff and porters.

What kind of camping facilities provided on this trip?

A full camping support with separate kitchen unit of cook-kitchen staff accompanied by trekking / climbing guide with field staff and strong porters, 2 men sharing in comfortable and high quality tents (for single supplement available at extra cost) portable table / chairs for dining with large spacious tents (as per group size) includes toilets tents and soft mattress. All meals cooked on kerosene or LPG Gas stoves as eco tourism responsibility by not using fire-woods. All meals provided are healthy and hygienic.
