Day 04: Trek on route Botan camp beneath unnamed pass 3,500 m.
Day 05: Trek to Botan 2, 680m via Sinja Khola 2,440 m – 06 hrs.
Day 06: Trek to Ghorasain 3,190 m – 04 hrs.
Day 07: Trek to Rara Lake 2,980m – 06 hrs.
Day 08: Rest day for excursion around the lake.
Day 09: Trek to Pina via Jhyari 2,580 m – 05 hrs.
Day 10: Trek to Chauta 2,770 m via Ghurchi-Lagna 3,460m – 06 hrs.

Rara Lake Trek Detail Itinerary

On arrival At Kathmandu international airport where View Nepal Trek staff will receive you with a transfer to your hotel around the hub of Kathmandu city, after checking in with refreshment View Nepal Trek guide join in for orientation and briefing regarding your stay in Nepal including Rara Lake trekking.

Morning optional tour around Kathmandu at places of interest full of World Heritage Sites, the Pashupatinath temple, Bouddhanath (Little Tibet), Swayambhunath (Monkey Temple) & monasteries, old Royal Palaces courtyard; after the tour back to hotel for afternoon flight to Nepal Far South West at Nepalgunj city.

Nepalgunj located close to UP state of India border, during 50 mins flight excellent views of Mountains, at Nepalgunj in a nice hotel for overnight halt.

Starting with early breakfast and then connect the flight to Jumla, on reaching Jumla meet our trekking / camping staff, and then begin trek through this large and headquarter town of Jumla district, walk leads to a short climb past lovely farm villages to reach our first overnight stop at Charya Chaur a small farm village.

After a wonderful first overnight, start the morning with uphill climb into rhododendron, birch and pine forest to reach a ridge top, this is a small pass called Jaljala Bhanjyang with views of Kanjiroba Himal.
Continue walk into wilderness starting with downhill for few hours to a summer pasture for overnight camp on a nice grassy field in the middle of nowhere.

Morning walk on downhill path to Sinja area following Jaljala Khola (stream) then into dense pine forest leading to terraced farm village at Sinja (this was a former old kingdom during medieval Malla period), observe this ancient rundown temples and monuments, old sculptured stones, covered in thick moss and weeds.

From here walk upstream to a small village of Ganj, and then continue to reach an interesting gorge and then reaching at Botan village for overnight halt.

Today a short and half day walk of few hours to Ghorsain to reach at an entrance of Rara National Park. On leaving Sinja Khola following Ghatte Khola (stream) further north, then it leads to short climb to a wonderful valley around farm area with an interesting primitive water grinding mill.

From here continue trek to reach Ghorrasain a small place for overnight stop, located on the outer rim of Rara National Park which has a small police post, afternoon free to explore this nice area or just relax and catch up with your dairy.

Walk today leads to our destination at Rara Lake, morning walk starts with climb to Chuchemara Danda at 4, 260 meters high, offering beautiful views of mountains and then heading downhill into forest of bamboo and birch trees, crossing Khatyar Khola to reach our destination at Rara Lake for overnight stops.

A perfect spot for rest and free day to explore this marvelous surrounding area where western trekkers seldom visits, a climb to a wooden tower for best views of Rara Lake with beautiful rolling green hills and snowcapped peaks.

After an enjoyable time at Rara Lake, return journey to Jumla leads taking a high route, starting the morning with a climb to a ridge called Jhyari a small farm village.

From here follow Jhyari Bira Khola downstream and then cross Dhauligar Khola valley leading to our overnight stop at Pina, a nice small farm village with few moderate size houses serving as lodge, tea shops.

Morning leading to a climb up into pristine woodland with fabulous views of mountains to reach at Ghurchi- Lagna pass, highest spot of this adventure the top festooned with Buddhist prayer flags. After a lovely time with views descend to a grassy meadow with walnut groves then walk into a narrow valley to Chauta village for overnight stop with few simple lodge to stay if not in tents.

After a pleasant time at Chauta village, morning walk follows Sinja khola to Bumra village leading past overhanging rock at Kamra, a source of important herbal medicinal mineral called Silaji.

From here long downhill walk to Sinja Khola, walking past Nyawre village, with some refreshing stop, and then climb to Tharamara ridge top for overnight camp.

Today last walk of this wonderful adventure as the path leads back at Jumla, starting the morning walk with a descend to a green valley lined with rhododendron, oaks and pines trees, on leaving the forest area back into fertile farm country with well tended fields.

From here walk past few smal villages of Padmara and then following the same river for some time to reach at Jumla town for last overnight.

As per the flight time to Nepalgunj board on a small aircraft for a short flight to Nepalgunj, and then connect to another flight to Kathmandu on reaching Kathmandu transfer to respective hotels.

A free leisure day in Kathmandu after a great wonderful journey to Rara Lake, on this day if interested book for sightseeing tour around places of interest in Kathmandu-Bhaktapur or Patan with rest of the day free for individual activities and shopping souvenirs.

Frequently Asked Questions

Starting with moderate walks with up hills and short rest stops, a pleasant walk with some tough days as it involves high passes of above 3,100 m but less chances of getting high altitude sickness, walk progress from moderate heights around Jumla to Rara Lake area, one this trek you will be well acclimatized on daily walks. With rest day for acclimatization and daily walk helps acclimatizing on this trek with slow rise in elevation, the only tough days are climb up to some passes, but taking slow walk everyone can enjoy this wonderful trek to Nepal Largest Lake Rara.
Morning and night time are always cold above 2,200 meters with day time are sunny most of the season, spring and summer above 2,500 m 15°-18° C average and minimum of 0° to 5° C, autumn / winter day time 15°-16° C and can get below -5° C during morn / night time. We do not run this trek from July to August due to monsoon the wet months with heavy showers with some chances of snow on the pass and most of the lodges and guesthouses will be closed for winter where local migrates to lower area of Nepal or to India.
As this is a moderate with adventurous trek, one needs to be physical fit with sound health, however after booking this trip one can do short exercise jogging and climbing up and down the steps, aerobic or Jumba exercise will be great exercise preparation for this trek. Rara Lake area of strong ancient Nepalese Hindu origin with some Tibetan Buddhist culture, our guide will inform of the rules while entering holy sites with dress conducts.
As this trek starts with moderate grade of walking as altitude wise as the trek progress leading higher elevation of above 3,000 meters will be adventurous overcoming high altitude and thin air, if the trails are covered in deep snow including the pass we use the word grade as adventurous which is an arduous job to find the safe path to respective destinations. If the pass is completely covered in deep snow we will consider and might re-route the trek to safe area for the welfare, safety of clients including staff and porters.
