The adventure begins with a sweeping flight to warm Arun valley at Tumlingtar town, where this journey begins heading high hills through lovely remote villages of Chichella-Num-Seduwa and Tashi-gaon.
This trek leads to high Kongma-la and Tutu-la pass through beautiful alpine woodlands to Barun valley enclosed within mountains and then at Makalu base camp beneath the black rocky Mt. Makalu standing high at 8,486 m high.
After an enjoyable and exciting time over high Sherpani Col to reach Everest area and then ending this awesome adventure at Lukla for the flight to Kathmandu with fond memories and wonderful time of Makalu Sherpani Col Trek with the expert guidance of View Nepal Treks.
Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.
Day 02: Fly to Tumlingtar 950 m and camp.
Day 03: Drive to Num 1, 500m – 03 ride trek to Seduwa 1,493 m- 04 hrs.
Day 04: Trek to Tashi- gaon 2,200 m – 04 hours.
Day 05: Trek to Kohma Danda 3,500 m – 05 hours.
Day 06: Trek to Mumbuk 3,400 m – 06 hours.
Day 07: Trek to Nehe Kharka 3,750 m – 06 hours.
Day 08: Trek to Sherson 4,600 m – 06 hours.
Day 09: At Sherson rest day for hikes.
Day 10: Trek to Yangre Kharka 3,645 m – 06 hours.

On arrival at Kathmandu international airport, received by View Nepal Treks guides / staff for a short drive to respective hotels around Thamel area, a tourist hub of Kathmandu.
After getting refreshed our guide will brief regarding hotel, Kathmandu and Makalu base camp & Sherpani Col Trekking with evening welcome dinner in an authentic Nepalese restraint with culture programs.
Morning as per the flight time transfer to Kathmandu domestic airport for 45 minutes flight to Tumlingtar, as the plane leads to Far East with views of snow capped mountains and Mt. Everest, Makalu & Mt. Kanchenjunga.
On reaching Tumlingtar meet our trekking staff and porters for this adventure to Makalu, overnight stop in Tumlingtar. Tumlingtar a fair size town located on sub-tropical climate on the shelf of Arun River, from this town view of Mt. Makalu towards North.
To make this journey shorter taking an interesting jeep ride from Tumlingtar to Num village as the drive leads high up on mid hills through farm lands and villages, Khadbari the main town of Sankha Saba district and Makalu area.
Journey continues on rough road with up and downhill to reach at Num village, after hours of drive, at Num walk begins with a descend to Arun River after crossing a small bridge, a steep climb through farm villages of Runruma, and then another 2 hours of climb reaching at Seduwa village for overnight stop.
A short walk of half day on gradual winding path leads to Tahsi-gaon for lunch and overnight stop, passing farm fields and terraces till Tashi gaon, the last Sherpa village from here onward in complete wilderness except for few small settlements to cater the needs of trekkers.
From Tashi Gaon walk through thick forest of rhododendron, pines and oaks trees, passing few cattle herders huts. After a nice walk for an hour, then climb into forest all the way to Kohma danda ridge a small pass for overnight stop.
This place with overhanging rocks and caves which makes fine shelter for porters and local cattle herders, super views of Kanchenjunga and Mt. Makalu from this spot.
Morning walk leads to much exposed area passing glacial ponds Thulo Pokhari and Sano Pokhari, (Big & Small Pond) and then cross over Tutu-la pass at 4,075 meters with downhill into forest to Mumbuk for overnight.
From Mumbuk, walk downhill to Barun Valley one of the unique and scenic valley around Himalaya and undisturbed area, as trekkers seldom trek this route.
Barun valley famous for wildlife, herbs and rare species of plants and vegetation, from here walk leads to a slow climb heading North West to camp at Nehe Kharka on a grazing area.
After overnight in Barun Valley, surrounded by high mountains and rock cliffs, walk leads to our destination to camp at Sherson a close distance from Makalu base camp.
Morning walk follows Barun River upstream with beautiful views reaching at Sherson for overnight stop.
Sherson is the last main stop of the adventure with stunning views of Mt. Makalu, Baruntse, Peak 04 and rare East Face of Everest and Lhotse peaks.
After days of hard / tough walk, Sherson a great place for rest day, from here hike to actual Makalu base camp with views of Mt. Everest and its rare East Face “Khangsung” including Lhotse world 4th highest.
After a nice day scenic walk return back to Sherson for last night in this beautiful area.
From here onwards leads extreme adventure climbing higher to a remote isolated area towards higher Makalu base camp, after a climb of three hours to Barun glacier snout, near to its glacial pond, and then reaching Makalu high camp on the moraine of rocks and ice, here rest and preparation for the next hard climb.
After a nice rest climb leads westwards beneath towering Makalu Western Pillar, from this point taking cautiously with the altitude gain on this high area, trek and climb follows to an valley ablation to the west side of glacier from Barun peak, then trekking into a small valley through glacier to make our own trail over the boulder of rocks and ice with strewn ice caves and then setting up the camp, this spot called Puja Camp beneath Makalu's West Pillar.
From here after a good rest, leaving the Puja camp follows a steady hard climb to a rocky ridge line to Barun peak west end, and then a climb to a row of cairns reaching at Sherpani Col a glacial valley for overnight camp and lunch, afternoon preparation for next day crossing of high Sherpani Col pass.
Today final assault and a big day, starting the journey before dawn heading with flashlights / torch lights,, making our own path to the Sherpani glacier icy snout to reach three individual Col's providing entrée to the cirque, then choosing the most suitable and reachable routes, climb follows on steep snow covered slope, with fixed ropes back-up, where our expert guide have fixed on the previous afternoon time, from this Col or pass all rope up to get cross the glacier on the rocky ridge of Sherpani West Col. This striking cirque is covered by icy ridges to the north of Baruntse's glaciers, offering views of Makalu, the wall of Chamlang to the south and majestic towering peak of Ama Dablam in the west direction.
After a hard day of arduous climb descending from the Col on fixed rope lines towards Hongu Glacier, and completing this long day with a good walk over snow slopes beneath the moraines near at Baruntse base camp for overnight camp.
From this isolated camp, morning starts to Panch Pokhari “five ponds” on the foot of Amphu Laptsa pass which is another pass to cross before Imjatse valley at Everest or Khumbu region. As the good walk progress walking on rocky moraines and then reaching a wide area at Upper Hongu Basin close to Kang Leyamura peak at 6,430 meters, and then following a rocky glacier towards a moraine area to reach the campsite beneath Amphu Labtsa pass at 5,780 meters.
A necessary to have rest day after 3-4 days of hard walk and climb on rocks, ice and glaciers, this rest day allows you to regain your energy and strength back while our team of staff and guides will scout the next pass fixing ropes where necessary for the last crossing of this trip.
Starting earlier to cross the last high pass of this adrenaline adventure with climb for an hour or more on rocks, moraine and icy slopes to reach the top of Amphu Labtsa offering stunning panorama of Lhotse South Face, Lhotse Shar and of Island / Imja-tse Peak, here a final inspection of the all the members, porters and staff in case of ill health and sickness due to altitude and tiredness which is common at this altitude. From here with rope fixed for safe descent to other side at Imjatse valley, descent of 150 meters on the gradual slopes below the pass. After a nice safe descent walk leads to an ablation valley of Imja glacier, on the Imjatse valley onto Khumbu / Everest area, after all the hard time this will be a pleasant walk to the first small settlement at Chukung for overnight stop in the comfort of nice cozy lodge.
View Nepal reserves this day as contingency or spare day, as this is a tough and extreme adventure crossing high passes, on route might encounter over broken trails and deep snow, to adjust the itinerary days in case of delay while climbing over the passes, if all goes well using this spare day can enjoy the walk Lukla with short day on route.
Return journey is much easier losing heights every hours, walking downhill with few short ups to Pangboche and then to the bridge with two 2 hours climb to Thyangboche for overnight stop a beautiful spot with panorama of peaks with Mt. Everest and majestic Amadablam.
Here visit the famous and interesting Thyangboche monastery surrounded with mountains and lovely forest of firs and rhododendron trees.
After pleasant times in Thyangboche Monastery morning downhill walk to Imjatse River, with steep climb for an hour to Sanasa, from here on gradual path with short ups and downs to Namche Bazaar for overnight stop, this will be a civilization after being away from villages and modern facilities for weeks.
Namche Bazaar the main big village of Khumbu with nice hotels, lodge, restaurant, pubs, banks, cyber and bakery café with few ATMS facilities.
Morning walk reaching at Dudh Kosi River valley with pleasant walk most of the way to Lukla with last climb, on reaching Lukla celebrate last night dinner with fellow trekkers and staff.
As per the flight time board on small aircraft for a short flight to Kathmandu, on reaching Kathmandu transfer to respective hotels with rest of the afternoon free to relax after a great adventure to Makalu base camp & Sherpani col.
