An awesome and fascinating adventure to Nar Phu trekking starting with an interesting walk, from alpine woodland to high territory of upper Manang valley in complete wilderness, away from popular Annapurna circuit trail for several days in the hidden highland of Nar & Phu.
A country of old Tibetan Buddhists culture with touch of ancient Bon tradition where elusive snow leopard and Blue Sheep are found in this high country of Nar& Phu, exploring traditional villages with awesome views of Annapurna and Damodar Himal.
This trek leads from moderate to adventurous walk crossing two high passes of Kang-la & Thorang-la to end this awesome and enjoyable adventure at Jomsom with a scenic short flight to picturesque and popular tourist spot at Pokhara.
Finally this amazing Nar Phu Trekking concludes with a drive back to Kathmandu with outmost service and excellent guidance of View Nepal Treks and its team of staff.
Short Itinerary
Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.
Day 02: Drive to Jagat 1,290 m via Beshishar 800 m – 9-10 hrs.
Day 03: Trek to Dharapani 1,920 m – 05 hours.
Day 04: Trek to Koto 2,670 m – 05 hours.
Day 05: Trek to Dharmashala 3,230m – 05 hours.
Day 06: Trek to Kyang 4,100 m – 6 hrs.
Day 07: Trek to Phu village 4,080 m – 06 hours.
Day 08: Rest at Phu village, visit and hike around Phu village and valley
Day 09: Trek to Nar Phedi 3,545 m – 06 hrs.
Day 10: Trek to Nar-Gaon 4,206 m – 06 hrs.
Day 11: Trek to Kang-La Base Camp 4,530 m – 05 hrs.
Day 12: Cross Kangla Pass 5,322m and trek to Ngawal 3,650 m – 07 hrs.
Day 13: Trek to Manang 3,450 m – 04 hrs.
Day 14: Trek to Thorong High Camp 4,600 m – 06 hrs.
Day 15: Cross Thorong-La 5,416 m and to Muktinath 3,800 m – 07 hrs.
Day 13: Trek to Jomsom 2,713m – 04 hrs.
Day 14: Fly to Pokhara and transfer to hotel.
Day 15: Drive of fly back to Kathmandu.
Day 16: International departure homeward bound.
On arrival at Kathmandu Tribhuvan International Airport, received by View Nepal Treks staff for transfer to hotels, after refreshment meet other members for briefing by our guide / leader regarding Nar-Phu trekking, lodges on route with do and don’ts and evening group welcome dinner.
Morning a long but interesting overland drive through Beshishar town, and then on the dirt road following Marsyangdi River upstream, drive continues through rice terraces and farm villages, on leaving Marsyangdi River with a climb to reach our first overnight halt at Jagat village.
After Jagat starting the morning walk on a gradual winding trail to Chamje, and towards Marsyangdi River crossing the eastern bank leading into forested area, with super views of Annapurna and Manaslu mountain ranges.
Walk continues to Tal Besi village, another 3 hours walk brings at Dharapani village for overnight stop, located on the junction of Annapurna circuit and Manaslu route.
After overnight at Dharapani, walk starts on a pleasant trail with beautiful forest of rhododendron, pines and fir tall tree lines to Koto near Chame with views of Annapurna II, Lamjung Himal and Manaslu range, on reaching Bagarchap and Danque village from here an hour steep climb to Timang village with awesome panorama of surrounding snow capped mountains. From here 2-3 hours of good walk reaches at Koto village for overnight stop, Koto village where route to Chame and Narphu splits.
From Koto our diverts from Annapurna circuit trail for few days heading towards Nar & Phu villages, in the hidden corners of Upper Manang valley close to Tibet border in the land of blue sheep’s and snow leopards.
Walk continues in a narrow valley within woodlands of pines and rhododendron tree lines, and then towards a nice pasture fields with huts and sheds of cattle herders and into a gorge created by Pisang Peak and Kang-guru Himal lower basin, walk carries on following Nar-Phu khola (stream) upstream to reach Dharmashala for overnight stop.
Morning leads towards far north heading towards Phu village into remote and isolated area with dry, arid landscapes, with chances of seeing some wildlife’s Blue Sheep’s, Snow Leopard, Musk deer’s and mountain goats.
Walk continues reaching at Kyang for overnight stop after an interesting day, Kyang with dozen of farm houses and of Tibetan life style and culture in this wild surrounding.
Today, our destination to Phu village start the morning walk leading towards Phu Khola and following upstream for some time and then descending back to river again, and then a climb to reach a gorge valley, walking in gorge for some time and then leading up into a wide glacial valley with pasture lands ending at Phu village of strong Tibetan influence culture, traditions and religion.
A necessary rest day at Phu on this high altitude for acclimatization and to explore this fascinating country, worth a visit to Tashilkhang and Samdu Choling Monastery and Kyauchyu waterfalls, Phu Village with about 30 houses for 100 to 150 inhabitants.
From Phu village walk leads back on the same trail for few hours descending to a narrow gorge at Phu khola, from here a slow climb to reach at Yughat small village with mani, chortens and Buddhist shrines, then finally reaching on a flat field at Nar Phedi for overnight stop.
Today walk leads back at Phu Khola for few hours, on reaching a suspension bridge over Phu Khola, crossing the bridge with steep climb for few hours to reach a flat area with gentle walk to Nar village for overnight.
Nargaon in comparison with Phu looks similar but smaller due to its remoteness with high altitude and dry land.
After Nar-Gaon walk heads to remote wilderness, away from human settlement for few days, an interesting walk for few hours then with short ups and downs in some rocky and arid path, passing cattle herders shelters and grazing field heading further west following Temdenzon khola in this wild surrounding with views of snow peaks and finally reaching at Kang la pass base for overnight camp at 4,530 meters altitude.
Starting early morning to cross Kang-la at an altitude of 5,322 meters, walk climbs higher on a steep slope for few hours with stunning views of Pisang Peak with Chulu Far East Peak, and then reaching the top of the pass with wonderful views of Annapurna massif mountain range, Chulu Peaks, Lamjung Himal and adjoining peaks of Annapurna range.
From downhill to Ngawal via Julu village close to Manang and main Annapurna circuit trail.
After North East Manang at Nar& Phu where Kangla pass separates the two Manang high valleys.
Morning walk is pleasant with downhill to Humde village with a small airstrip, from here reach Braga village and visit the monastery with ancient artifacts and statue of various Buddha with mind blowing panorama of snow capped mountains.
After a wonderful time exploring the monastery, an hour walk leads to proper Manang village for overnight.
After Manang, morning walk leads uphill to Yak Kharka, an interesting high altitude trekking with super views of snowcapped mountains, then crossing a small stream river to reach Yak Kharka, a small settlement with tremendous views of Gangapurna, Annapurna III and Chulu Peaks.
From here a climb along the river bank to Thorung Phedi, and then an hour with steep climb brings at Thorang High Camp for overnight stop.
Note: If you are not fit enough you will stop over in Lather for one night and this days trip you can make for 2 days, if you are fit and fully acclimatize then you will do it in same day.
Another early start for the climb up to Thorang-la on a winding path to Thorung La Pass at 5,416 m / 17,700 ft, highest point of this trip with super views of snowcapped peaks, and then a long descend leads to Muktinath at 3,800 m.
On reaching Muktinath for overnight stop, a holy place for both Hindus and Buddhists the word Muktinath literally means ‘the place for Nirvana or Liberation’.
Today last trek of this adventure, enjoy downhill walk to Jomsom town, perched on a shelf above Kaligandaki River.
On reaching at Jomsom, the administrative and a headquarter town of Mustang area. Jomsom with many excellent lodge and hotels for overnight accommodation, this town situated on the famous Annapurna circuit, Upper Mustang and to holy Muktinath route, afternoon explore Jomsom town.
Morning transfer to Jomsom airport for short flight to picturesque Pokhara valley with Annapurna mountains backdrop and pristine Phewa Lake where hotels are located, afternoon free for individual activities and souvenir shopping or just relax and enjoy the views.
Morning a scenic drive to Kathmandu, after a wonderful memorable trip in the high mountains of Annapurna Himalaya, on reaching Kathmandu transfer to respective hotels with afternoon free at leisure.
