Let View Nepal Treks fulfill your adrenaline dreams turn into reality, on our fabulous and exciting adventure Chulu East Peak Climbs, located above high picturesque Manang Valley off from main Annapurna circuit route for few days.Chulu East Peak stands at 6,584 meters, among all trekking peaks of Nepal Himalaya Chulu East listed as highest trekking peaks by NMA (Nepal Mountaineering Association).

View Nepal Treks has designed the itinerary days for successful climb after trekking exercise and practice with proper acclimatization days for the triumph on top of Chulu East with full safety measures and support of our expert guides.

Starting this adventure with a drive towards high hills of Lamjung and Manang area and then walk leads into lovely forested trail, through nice villages of Dharapani-Chame-Pisang and Julu to reach our destination at the base of Chulu East peak.

After rest day and preparation ascent of Chulu East, the climb is technically and straight forward but quite demanding requires good physical fitness and positive attitude, to accomplish the climb to the summit.Grade for the climb PD + means “Peu Difficile” some technical difficult, walking on glaciers as per French / Swiss Alpine climbing system used worldwide.

Return journey back on main popular Annapurna Circuit trail, passing Manang- Yak Kharka -Ledar to reach over high Thorang-la pass, from the pass descend towards holy Muktinath and then finally this marvelous adventure Chulu East Peak Climbs concludes at Jomsom town for short scenic flight to picturesque Pokhara city.

Day to Day Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.

On reaching Kathmandu Tribhuvan International Airport, received by View Nepal Treks staff then transfer to respective hotels Kathmandu city, after refreshment briefing by our guide / leader regarding Chulu East Climb and trek, lodges on route with do and don’ts and evening welcome dinner.

Day 02: In Kathmandu sightseeing tour at places of interest.

Today a free day preparation for the trek and climb to Chulu East, this day allows us to obtain necessary paper works for Chulu East climb. For interested people can book for short sightseeing tour around Kathmandu at places of interest, as Kathmandu valley is full of world heritage sites and monuments.

Day 03: Drive to Trek to Dharapani 1,920 m via Jagat 1,290 m and Besishar 800 m - 07 hrs.

Morning a long and interesting overland drive towards Nepal mid west at Besishar town, from here on a dirt road to Khudi, Bhulbhule and Ngadi, as the drive follows Marsyangdi River upstream through rice terraces and villages then ending the long day at Dharapani village for overnight stop. A nice large village located on the junction of Manaslu and Annapurna circuit trail.

Day 04: Trek to Chame 2,670 m - 05 hours.

Morning walk leads along winding path into rhododendron, pine forest through Bagachap and Danque village, then to Timang village. From here onwards into Buddhist culture area with view of Mt. Manaslu 8,163m / 26,781ft. From Timang village few hours trek leads to Koto and then to Chame town for overnight stop, a large and major town and headquarter of Manang area.

Day 05: Trek to Pisang 3, 230 m - 05 hrs.

Adventure continues into cooler area from here onwards closer to mountainous region, trekking through nice alpine forests of rhododendron and pine trees, following Marshyangdi River upstream with short ups and down hills to Bhratang village. From Bhratang village walk follows uphill through alpine woodland overlooking Chulu’s and Pisang peak, after lunch break at Dukuri Pokhari walk descends to lower Pisang village for overnight stop.

Day 06: Rest day at Pisang for acclimatization and short hikes.

At this altitude necessary for rest where you can relax and take a short hike to upper Pisang and visit its interesting old monastery with fantastic views of Annapurna range of mountains with Pisang-Chulu East peaks.

Day 07: Trek to Julu village 3,900 m - 06 hrs.

From Pisang village our route diverts from main Annapurna circuit trail leading to a steep climb above Marshyangdi River, walk offers impressive views of mountains on this high trail above Nagawa village, and then continues towards North into high and dry country to reach at Julu, a small village for overnight with our camping facilities for this adventure.

Day 08: Trek to Chulu Base Camp at 5,300m.

After an overnight at Julu, morning walk leads to high and dry terrain with views of Chulu’s and Annapurna, including Damodar mountains, climb leads to some gradual section towards high ridge of Chulu East and Far East Peaks. After few hours of tough walk reaching a rocky moraine beneath our overnight camp, a perfect spot on grazing field to set our base camp and starting point for the climb to Chulu East Peak summit.

Day 09: Rest day at Base Camp.

A necessary to have one more day before the tough climb, proper acclimatization and checking climbing gear for the climb, where our guide will make sure that everyone is in top physical condition for next morning climb. At base camp our expert guide will offer suggestion and information regarding the climb and use of equipment for the climb of Chulu East Peak.

Day 10: Ascent of Chulu East Peak and descend to Base Camp.

The highlight and goal of this adventure starting early before dawn then climb over snow slopes, can be quite steep with technical difficulties in few sections on reaching the summit; our guide will provide full support fixing ropes where necessary to make successful climb. After the final ascent to the summit and then feeling high on top of the world a gaining great experience of life time adventure along with fantastic views of mountains, descend back on the same route safely to base camp.

Day 11: Reserve day in case of bad weather condition.

View Nepal Treks for your success, reserves an extra day as contingency in case of bad and unfavorable weather condition, or to adjust this day to maintain itinerary days taking care of client’s fitness as well. If this day not used and if all goes well according to our standard itinerary our guide / leader will use this extra day on return trek to Manang or on route Jomsom, making short day as you enjoy walks with views on route trekking.

Day 12: Trek to Manang 3,350m - 04 hrs.

On reaching Nagwal after Julu village, a long descend to Hongde village with a short air-strip. Walk from here is on gradual wide trail most of the way to Manang via Braga village with an interesting monastery. Monastery of Braga largest in whole Manang district, it has an outstanding display of statues, thangkas with religious manuscripts. From here it is only an hour walk to Manang for overnight stop in the comfort of nice cozy lodge.

Day 13: Trek to Yak Kharka 4,110 m - 04 hours.

After a pleasant overnight at Manang, morning walk leads on uphill path to Yak Kharka, an interesting high altitude trekking with super views of snowcapped mountains, then crossing a small stream river to reach Yak Kharka, a small settlement with views of Gangapurna, Annapurna III and Chulu Peaks.

Day 14: Trek to Thorong High Camp 4,600 m - 04 hrs.

Morning heading high area, to the base of Thorang-la after a climb along the river bank, walk leads at Thorang Phedi, from here an hour of steep climb brings at Thorang High Camp for overnight stop.

Day 15: Cross Thorong-La 5,416 m and to Muktinath 3,800 m - 06 hrs.

The main day of this adventure, with early breakfast trek follows a long climb up to Thorang-la with steep haul on the winding path to Thorung La Pass at 5,416 m / 17,700 ft. The highest point on trekking after the climb of Chulu East, the pass offers awesome sceneries of snowcapped peaks after feeling high reaching the main highlight, and then a long descend leads to Muktinath at 3,800 m. On reaching Muktinath for overnight stop, a holy place for both Hindus and Buddhists the word Muktinath literally means ‘the place for Nirvana or Liberation’.

Day 16: Trek to Jomsom 2,713m - 04 hrs.

Today our last walk of this fabulous adventure, enjoy downhill walk to Jomsom town, perched on a shelf above Kaligandaki River. On reaching at Jomsom, the administrative and a headquarter town of Mustang area. Jomsom with many excellent lodge and hotels for overnight accommodation, this town situated on the famous route of Annapurna circuit, Upper Mustang and to holy Muktinath route, afternoon explore Jomsom town.

Day 18: Fly to Pokhara and transfer to hotel.

Morning transfer to Jomsom airport for short flight to picturesque Pokhara valley with Annapurna mountains backdrop and pristine Phewa Lake where hotels are located, afternoon free for individual activities and souvenir shopping or just relax and enjoy the views.

Day 19: Drive or fly back to Kathmandu.

Morning a scenic drive to Kathmandu, after a wonderful memorable trip in the high mountains of Annapurna Himalaya, on reaching Kathmandu transfer to respective hotels with afternoon free at leisure. (options by air 30 minutes scenic flight to Kathmandu)

Day 18: International departure homeward bound.

Today, your last day in amazing Nepal with great experience and fond memories of Chulu East Climb and trekking, as per your time for international flight, View Nepal staff transfer you to airport for your final departure homeward bound or to your next destinations.

Faqs About This Trip

How hard is Chulu East trek and climb including pass?

Starting with moderate walks with up hills with short breaks in between, trekking is pleasant except for high altitude on reaching high Manang area above 3,000 meters. With rest day for acclimatization and the daily walk helps acclimatizing on this trek with slow rise in elevation, the only tough day is to Julu village and at Chulu East base camp due to high altitude and dry air. Taking slow and steady walk everyone can enjoy this marvelous trek and climb to Chulu East.

How cold during this trek and climb?

Morning and night time are always cold above 2,500 meters with day time are sunny most of the season, spring and summer above 2,500 m 15°-18° C average and minimum of 0° to 5° C, autumn / winter day time 15°-16° C and can get below -10° C during morn / night time. We do not run this trek from December to March due to high chances of snow on the pass and on route climb of Chulu East.

Preparation and expectations required for this trek and climb?

As this is a moderate and adventurous trekking one needs to be physical fit with sound health, however after booking this trip one can do short exercise jogging and climbing up and down the steps, aerobic or Jumba exercise will be great exercise preparation for this trek. Higher Manang valley of complete Tibetan Buddhist religion and culture, visit to monasteries where our guide will inform of the rules while entering holy sites with dress conducts. As for the climb requires positive attitude and good physical fitness with some practice of ice axe and using crampons if possible during trek our guide will offer good practices and instructions for the climb.

What is moderate, adventurous to Challenging grade?

As this trek starts with moderate grade of walking as altitude wise as the trek progress leading higher elevation of above 3,000 meters will be adventurous overcoming high altitude and thin air, if the trails are covered in deep snow including the pass we use the word grade as challenging which is an arduous job to find the safe path to respective destinations. If the pass is completely covered in deep snow we will consider and might re-route the trek to safe area for the welfare, safety of clients including staff and porters.
