Trip Overview

Adventure to Yala Peak climb leads to striking views and fascinating trek and climb, although one of the lesser trekking peak. An ideal peak to climb for interested adventurer and beginners as this peak stands at 5,732 m /18,915 ft one of the most attractive peaks around central Himalaya around Langtang valley.

The climbing grade rated as PD means “Peu Difficile” of less technical difficulties, walking on glaciers the grade as Swiss / French Alpine Climbing System used for alpine climb worldwide.

The climb of Yala Peak is undertaken after proper acclimatization and some practices, as the trek itself provides much exercise for this adventure to Yala Peak at 5,732 meters / 18,806 feet high.

Yala Peak climb around picturesque Langtang valley starts with an overland drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi village within Langtang National Park just north of Kathmandu on a route the Nepal – China (Tibet) border.

After a lovely walk into the pristine forest and traditional Tamang villages leading at Kyanjin Gompa offering a panorama of snowcapped peaks, and then heading further at the end of the valley for exciting adventure climb of Yala Peak.

The top offers incredible views of the mountains that straddle the border of Nepal and Tibet, after an enjoyable and thrilling climb return journey on the same trail, to conclude this wonderful adventure at Syabrubesi for the drive back to Kathmandu with great guidance and service of View Nepal Treks.

Yala Peak Climb: Outline Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.
Day 02: In Kathmandu sightseeing tour at places of interest.
Day 03: Drive to Syabrubesi 1,460 m – 07 hrs journey.
Day 04: Trek to Sherpa-Gaon 2, 350 m – 06 walks.
Day 05: Trek to Thyangsyap village 3, 307m – 06 hrs.
Day 06: Trek to Kyanjin Gompa 3,749 m – 04 hrs.
Day 07: Rest day at Kyanjin for acclimatization and hikes.

Yala Peak Climb Detail Itinerary

On reaching Kathmandu Tribhuvan International Airport, you will be received by View Nepal Treks staff with warm welcome transfer respective hotels our guide / leader will inform regarding Yala Peak climb- hotels –lodge on route with do and don’ts with welcome dinner.

Today a free day preparation for the trek and climb of Yala Peak, this day allows buying and hiring of equipment required for Yala Peak climb and treks. For interested people can book for short sightseeing tour around Kathmandu at places of interest, as Kathmandu valley is full of world heritage sites and monuments.

Starting this wonderful journey driving towards North West of Kathmandu passing interesting villages and towns with fabulous scenery of hills, farm terraces and snow capped peaks after the warm area reaching to cooler region at Langtang National Park entrance in Dhunche 1950 meters, the one and the only major town of Rasuwa district and Langtang area, inhabited mostly of Tamang ethnic tribes throughout the area of this trekking.

From here downhill for two hours with overnight at Syabrubesi, the door to Langtang, Ganesh and into Tamang Heritage Trail and as well to the Tibet border from this village.

The first day walk of this adventure leads to cross a bridge over Langtang Khola (river) later joins the great Trisuli River, and then on the uphill walking through scattered farm villages and terraces with views of surrounding landscapes and into forest of rhododendron, pines, bamboo tree lines, Langtang area is famous for rare and elusive Red Panda and other wildlife’s, after a good day’s walk reaching at Sherpa-Gaon located in between forest surrounding and by the Langtang Khola a small farm village with few simple lodges.

Morning walk heads higher up and above the river gorge and in the middle of woodlands of tall trees of pines, rhododendron, following the ridgelines passing few houses and cattle herders shelters and then to more cooler place in beautiful forest surrounding, from here another 2-3 hours of good walk to reach Thyangsyap village for overnight stop, the last village before Kyanjin. Here explore this interesting village of Tamang and Bhotias people of Tibetan origin with similar life style of Tibet religion and culture.

After a wonderful stop in this last village, and into temporary settlement of yak herders and lodge to serve the trekkers, moving on the winding up trail and then the gorge opens to a wide beautiful valley with awesome views of snow capped peaks that lines this Langtang valley, walking on encountering few prayer or mani walls and then reaching our first destination of this trip at Kyanjin Gomba for two nights in this lovely valley surrounded by many peaks around with Langtang Lirung glacier just close by from the lodges and a cheese processing factory established some 35 years ago with help of Swiss assistance.

A perfect spot for rest day to acclimatize at this high altitude before our next higher journey to Gosainkund and beyond, here many places for short hike and climb like to the hill top of Tsego and Kyanjin ri at over 4,000 meters top for better panorama of surrounding mountains.

From the view point panorama of Langtang Himal other major peaks include Ghengu Liru (Langtang II 6571m / 21,560ft), Langtang Lirung (7,425m / 23,765ft) Kimshun (6,745m / 22,137ft) and Shalbachum (6,918m / 22,699ft) to the south, the Chimsedang Lekh forms a ridge of peaks which includes Naya-Kanga 5,846m and Gangchempo, Tilman's beautiful Fluted Peak.

Beyond it continues to the Jugal Himal, ending with Dorje Lakpa (6,980m / 22,929ft), extending further east on the upper meadows of the Langtang range ends in a huge and massive mountain wall, forming the border with Tibet.

After Kyanjin Gompa on an adventure of this trip highlights, walking on rocky glacier with steep climb through icy path to reach a reasonable flat area to set base camp at 4,400m. Base camp offers outstanding views of Ganchenpo, Naya Kang, Tserko Ri, Yala peak and others peaks till Yala base camp is reached for the first camp of this trip after being in the comfort of a lodge, base camp with marvelous view of high massif surrounding mountains.

Climb to Yala Peak summit, starting early morning with a climb which is of less technical difficulties and takes nearly 8 hours to reach the top ridge of the summit and back to base camp.

After a hard and tough climb reaches you to the summit at 5,732 meters / 18,806 feet high, on reaching the top enjoy the fantastic panorama of mountains and then descend safely to base camp, after an overwhelming climb of Yala peak.

View Nepal Treks for your success, reserves an extra day as contingency in case of bad and unfavorable weather condition, or to adjust this day to maintain itinerary days taking care of client’s fitness as well.

If this day not used and if all goes well according to our standard itinerary our guide / leader will use this extra day on return trek to Kyanjin or on route Kathmandu, making short day as you enjoy walks with views on route trekking.

Leaving Yala Peak base camp, walk back to Kyanjin Gompa following icy path steeply descends offering marvelous views of massif Himalaya, enjoying views of mountains and gently ascend to reach Kyanjin Gompa for overnight stop.

Morning catching the last view of this wonderful surrounding and high snow capped mountains in amazing Langtang valley, then heading downhill on the main route to Lama Hotel after a long descend with few short ups in between the walks.

From Lama Hotel morning walk leads to back on alternative route to Syabrubesi with downhill to Riverside flowing from Tibet border and glaciers Ganesh and Langtang Himal, after the crossing the bridge back to Syabrubesi in the comfort of nice lodge before the drive back to Kathmandu.

After breakfast a nice interesting drive following downhill winding road to Kathmandu passing many farm villages and towns of Kalikasthan, Trisuli Bazaar and the back to hustle, bustle of city life of Kathmandu and then check into respective hotels.

A free and leisure day in Kathmandu for own individual activities and souvenirs shopping, for interested people one can book for sightseeing tours around Kathmandu-Bhaktapur and Patan cities at places of interest, as Nepal is steeped with historical and World Heritage Sites.

Last day in Nepal after wonderful experience with fond memories of Yala Peak Climb and Langtang valley trekking, as per your flight time View Nepal Treks staff transfer you to airport for your final departure homeward bound or to your next destinations.

Frequently Asked Questions

Langtang valley trek leads to one of the most beautiful areas with panorama of mountains, starting with moderate walk with uphill and downhill, some gradual walk involves high altitude above from 2,000 m to 4,000 meters high, as altitude wise it is one of the safe trekking without the problem of AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness). The climb of Yala Peak of less technical effort but requires ice-axe and crampons throughout the climb and descend, you will be much acclimatized for the adventure before the climb.
This trek leads from warm sub-tropical climate to cooler temperatures as the walk progress above 2,000 meters, with mild alpine climate with morning and night time cooler but the day is bright and sunny sometimes the afternoon can get windy with wind-chill factor. Can be cold season wise, autumn and winter months can get cold above 3,000 m with strong UV. In spring and summer above ,3000 m with 15°-18° C average and minimum of 0° to 5° C, autumn / winter day time 15°-16° C and can get below -5° C during morn / night time.
One of the safest trekking despite high mountains, chance of altitude getting AMS is less starting with slow moderate walk, acclimatization every day on walk before Kyanjin Gompa at 3,749 meters. If some people get sick with other problem or diarrhea which is normal due to change of foods, air and environment, we do carry medical kit on every trek as our guide have enough medical experience, they will advice what is best and in case of serious illness and accidents, emergency evacuation is necessary by any means of transport including helicopter service to reach nearest hospital.
Normally Satellite and local Cell phone works, when deep gorge and valley like in Lama Hotel - Ghoretabla it won’t work properly sometimes, in case if your cell does not work there are Landlines (STD /ISTD) available along every lodge on route Langtang valley.
As this is a moderate and adventurous trekking one needs to be physical fit with sound health, however after booking this trip one can do short exercise jogging and climbing up and down the steps, aerobic or Jumba exercise will be great exercise preparation for this trek. Langtang area of Tibetan Buddhist religion and culture, visit to monastery where our guide will inform of the rules while entering holy sites with dress conducts. As for the climb requires positive attitude and good physical fitness with some practice of ice axe and using crampons if possible during trek our guide will offer good practices and instructions for the climb.
